Este conmovedor relato de la vida de una de las más prestigiosas firmas del periodismo mundial ha sido un auténtico acontecimiento editorial en Italia, donde se han vendido hasta la fecha más de un millón de ejemplars.
Cuando en marzo de 2004, Tiziano Terzani, debido a una enfermedad terminal, ve acercarse el final de su vida, decide reunirse con su hijo Folco para mantener con él unas valiosas conversaciones sobre la vida que ha llevado.

Aceptando su destino con la serenidad propia del que ha frecuentado las filosofías orientales durante gran parte de su vida, Terzani rememora los hechos que han marcado su existencia y la de los suyos.
Nacido en el seno de una humilde familia florentina en los albores de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Tiziano Terzani quiere transmitir a su hijo su insaciable curiosidad por el mundo y sus habitantes. Desafiando el destino que le reservaba su origen social, decidió ser periodista y recorrer incansablemente nuestro planeta. Frente a su mirada comprometida desfilaron la mayoría de los hechos determinantes del convulso siglo XX: la guerra fría, la China maoísta, elapartheidsurafricano o la guerra  e Vietnam son sólo algunos de los acontecimientos que marcaron la trayectoria de este hombre extraordinario.
